Whitewater trips:
You are welcome to bring a bag or backpack that you can leave on the bus, with a towel, sweater, or anything else you want to keep dry. On a whitewater trip it’s best to assume you will get wet.
You’ll want shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and will stay on your feet. This could be sneakers or sandals with a heel strap. Polarized sunglasses, with straps to keep from losing them, will help cut the glare from the water. Sunblock is always a good idea on the river.
Into the later part of June, the water temperature tends to be quite cool still. If you are concerned about being cold, it’s best to listen to the old mountain saying of “cotton kills” so stay away from jeans and cotton hoodies. Instead opt for materials that will insulate even when wet like fleece, wool, and polypropylene. A good set up for colder days is a base layer of these materials with a warm fleece and a rain jacket over the top. We also have wet suits available for rent. If your feet get cold easily wearing a pair of wool socks will help a surprising amount.
As the water warms up, it becomes less about staying warm and more about hiding from the sun. Most people wear swimsuits, but if you are worried about getting too much sun it’s best to wear quick dry pants and a long sleeve shirt. Also, a hat to cover your head and face. Of course, sunblock is an option as well.
Scenic floats:
People usually stay dry on scenic floats, so wear whatever you feel comfortable in. It’s still a good idea to wear shoes you don’t mind getting wet. We’ll do our best to keep you dry, if you like, but we are on a river and people’s feet can get wet getting in and out of the boat. A major consideration would be sun protection. Long sleeve shirt, pants, and hat is the best solution.
Minimum: Our usual age limit for white water is 6 years old. Depending on water level and the child we may raise or lower the agelimit. Give us a call to discuss any questions. For scenic floats it is left tothe parents discretion.
Maximum: We do not have a maximum age limit. We’ve taken 90 year olds before that have had a blast. However it is up to each person to reasonably assess their health level and abilities.

For most of our trips we will meet at the Rawhide River Trips boathouse located at 2040 US-93 North Fork, ID. From here it is a short drive to our put-ins on the river. Sometimes for fishing trips it may make more sense to meet at a different location depending on where your guide is planning to fish on that day. Often times our fishing guides prefer to get started as early in the morning as they can. We may be in contact with you to coordinate where and when to meet for fishing trips.
